Last Thursday, July 11, 2024, marked the fourth and final round of this year’s MunichBikeStars Thursday Crit Series.
The CSBikes Road Team lined up with a full squad and the highest possible ambitions. Why? Because everything was on the line: the stage win and the overall series title for Martin. The stakes were clear: to secure the series win, we had to ensure a victory for Martin while simultaneously making sure his closest and strongest rival, Silias Motzkus, finished no higher than third on the day. Under these conditions, the plan was simple: all in for Martin. But the pressure was immense—we stood to lose everything.
From the gun, it was the fastest and most brutal race of the series. The average speed at the finish was over 48 km/h. Throughout the entire race, the competition launched relentless attacks. In addition to Silias, the field included a full NextLevel squad and five incredibly strong riders from 54x11.
Right from the start, we had the lead-outs for the intermediate sprints under control. Martin consistently gathered points, always finishing in the top three. Heading into the final double-points lap, he was 9 points ahead of Silias—who still could have flipped the result if the finish went his way. Every rider on the CSBikes Road Team was at their absolute limit, leaving everything out on the road. The final three laps were a total battle, "gloves off." Everyone gave it their all, and in the end, we executed to perfection: through relentless effort, a bit of luck, and tactical savvy, we positioned Martin while isolating Silias. The result was exactly as planned: Martin in 1st place and Silias in 3rd—securing the overall series victory for us!
This series proved what is possible when a team sacrifices itself completely for a single goal and how difficult it is to beat us when we execute our plan to the point. Of course, you can't always plan the result, but you can certainly plan the performance!
