Final Round of the Munich Thursday Criteriums

Munich, July 27, 2024! It’s 3:15 PM, the sun is blazing, 35 degrees. The CSBikes Road Team is lined up across from the Allianz Arena alongside roughly 85 other licensed racers for the fifth and final round of the munichbikestars Munich Thursday Criterium series.

The entire squad was at the start, with the exception of Anderl. We had big plans. We were hungry for the win and put all our chips on one card: Basti. We wanted to sign off from the 2024 series with a victory—especially since we already had the overall series title (based on the first four races) "in the bag" thanks to Martin’s first place and Basti’s third.

So, who was going to stop us? If anyone, it would be the competition! Among the 85 starters were our Thursday-night rivals, Silias, the full 54x11 squad, NextLevel, Schranz 04 Racing, and a handful of incredibly strong individual riders.

From the gun, we did everything to take control of the race. We succeeded in dominating the first half, though we didn't quite manage to convert that control into enough points.

The second half of the race became increasingly chaotic. We lost our grip on the lead a bit, and while many other riders were putting in moves, nothing was really sticking—which just made the whole race feel frantic and disorganized.

Unfortunately, the chaos peaked at lap 30 of 40, when we got caught up in a crash while riding in the front third of the pack. Three of us went down along with four other riders, but luckily we avoided any serious injuries and were able to get back on our bikes.

From there, we threw everything we had left into the mix, attempting to regain control through sheer dominance, and we still managed to pull off a great result. It wasn’t first place, unfortunately, but we did get Basti onto the second step of the podium.

All in all, given that individual result, we’re heading home incredibly happy: 5 races, 2 wins, 6 podiums, the overall series title, and third place overall... not too bad for our first season as a team! 😃
